Design OptionsTotal Control Over Your Outdoor Space
Homeowners come to Chesterfield for cooler rooms in summer, a patio that’s actually shaded in the afternoon, a backyard that goes from underused to the place everyone wants to be, and curb appeal that turns heads. Whatever brings you here, we design every project around your home and how you want to live in it. Most of our products are manufactured in our South Holland facility; for premium systems from trusted partners, we handle the consultation, ordering, and preparation. Either way, our own team installs everything, and we’re here after install for cleaning, repair, and seasonal storage.
What a Custom Outdoor Structure Actually Does for Your Home
Real Energy Efficiency
Shading windows and patio doors before heat reaches the glass keeps interior rooms noticeably cooler and takes pressure off your air conditioning.
Expanded Living Space
A retractable awning, custom pergola, or full canopy turns your patio, deck, or porch into a genuine outdoor room from spring through fall.
Protection for Your Home
Direct sun fades hardwood floors and furniture. Rain damages doors, entryways, and outdoor pieces. A properly designed structure shields all of it for years.
Curb Appeal for Years to Come
With over 30 colors, hundreds of fabrics, and over 15 trim styles, your project becomes a design feature that pulls your home's exterior together.
Why the Full Lifecycle Under One Roof Matters
We design the project with you, sitting in your home. Most of our products are manufactured in our South Holland facility, where our metalwork team builds custom frames, our sewing team cuts and sews fabric panels, and custom graphics and finishing details are applied in-house.
When something needs cleaning, repair, or seasonal storage years later, the team that installed it is the team that takes care of it. That ownership of the full lifecycle is rare in this industry. Most companies are pure installers who move on the moment the install is complete. That’s not us.

How We Work With Homeowners
Free In-Home Consultation
We come to you, take measurements, talk through what you want, and bring sample books so you can see materials in the light of your own home.
Custom Design
Every project is designed from scratch around your home, your architecture, and your use case. We don’t sell standard sizes off a shelf.
Production and Preparation
For in-house products, frames are built by hand, fabric is cut and sewn, and finishing details are applied in South Holland, with quality control before anything ships. Partner systems are ordered to your specs and prepped by our team for install.
Professional Installation
Our own crews handle every install: efficient, clean, and respectful of your home. Most residential installs are completed quickly once production or shipment is complete.
Ongoing Care
Cleaning, repair, motor service, seasonal storage, and structural adjustments long after install day. Many customers schedule seasonal service year after year on structures we installed years ago.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between a pergola, a canopy, and an awning?
A pergola is an open-frame structure that defines an outdoor space and provides partial shade, usually freestanding or attached to your home. A canopy is a full-coverage structure that provides more complete weather protection. An awning typically attaches to your home and covers a specific area like a window, door, or patio. We build all three, and we’ll help you figure out which is right for your space and how you plan to use it.
How long does a residential project usually take?
Total project time from consultation to installation typically runs four to eight weeks, depending on the style, materials, and any permitting required. Retractable awning systems and certain specialty products can run six to nine weeks depending on vendor lead times. Custom or larger projects can take longer. We’ll give you a clear timeline during your consultation. While we ask you reach out to us with a reasonable lead time, we may be able to offer expedited services for an additional fee.
How many design options do I actually have?
Hundreds of combinations. Over 30 solid color options, multiple fabric materials, 15 trim and valance styles, and a wide range of pergola designs, canopy configurations, and awning shapes. We bring sample books to every consultation so you can see and feel your options.
Do you handle the HOA and permitting process?
For city and municipal permits, yes – we manage the entire process from application to approval. For HOA and condominium board approvals, the homeowner typically handles the submission with our support. We prepare all the drawings, product specifications, and material documentation your architectural review board needs so you can submit with everything they’ll ask for.
What kinds of homes do you typically work with?
All of them. We’ve built pergolas, canopies, awnings, and outdoor structures for everything from historic Chicago bungalows to modern Lake Forest homes, traditional ranch homes across the south suburbs, condos and townhomes across the region, and architecturally distinct custom homes on lakefront properties. Custom is what we do, and the style of your home is part of the design conversation. The sooner we get involved with you, your architect, or contractor, the more creative we can be with your custom project.
Do you service structures you didn't install?
In most cases, yes. We offer cleaning, repair, motor service for retractable systems, seasonal storage, and other service work for outdoor structures throughout our service area, including ones we didn’t originally build. If you want to change a fabric color or replace aging fabric on an existing frame, we handle that as a product update, quoted based on your selections.
What areas do you serve?
Chicago, the surrounding suburbs, and Northwest Indiana are our primary residential service areas, including over 240 communities across the south, southwest, west, northwest, and north suburbs. We also serve select areas of Western Michigan and parts of Wisconsin. See our full service area for details.
