Commercial Awning Project Spotlight
Free People (Chicago, IL)

Free People stores and fashion collections are inspired by tiny boutiques found in New York City where young designers live upstairs, fabricate their hand made designs in the back room and sell them in the front of the store.
This awning's size is roughly 25 feet, with a 7 foot drop. The unique custom design of the awning's graphics was inspired by an antique kimono.
When you look at this awning it's clear that the graphics are what stand out the most, and its visual effect is bolstered by its sheer size. With the size of the awning and the level of detail of the graphics it was a no contest decision to have the graphics digitally printed directly onto the fabric. The frame is also painted a lime green which further enhances its uniqueness and its appearance.
Where this awning is located there are plenty of surrounding stores with awnings that fill your line of sight, but this one definately stands out the most, attracting and demanding the attention it was designed for.
