About Chesterfield

a view of Chesterfield
Awning from the air

In 1958 two friends, Howard Ausema and George Kooinga, purchased Chesterfield Awning Company in the Chesterfield neighborhood of Chicago. (Chesterfield was located near the Pullman neighborhood on Chicago's south side.) While they didn't know that much about awnings at the time, they learned quickly - selling awnings during the day, sewing them on the weekends and installing them at night. As time went their business prospered. They added employees and were able to concentrate on selling awnings and building their company.

In the 1970's Howard and George relocated the main factory to it's current location in South Holland, IL. In the 90's, Chesterfield purchased two well-respected companies: The Canvas Smith Awning Company in the Loop area of Chicago and the Awnco Awning Company in the heart of Chicago's Beverly neighborhood. In 2005 Chesterfield acquired the Williams Awning Company of Oak Park, which since the early 1900's has had a long tradition of excellent craftsmanship and service.

Today Chesterfield Awning's main office and factory is in South Holland, IL, just south of Chicago. We have about 25 employees, including an in-house engineer and and in-house designer, and satellite offices in Chicago and Oak Park.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our website. If you'd like to get into some specifics with a salesperson please contact us. We think we're the perfect sized company- big enough to serve, but small enough to serve with a personal touch. We're proud to continue the reputation of quality that Chesterfield has been building in Chicago since 1958.

Sincerely,

David and Howard Ausema, Owners
